Hello again
Sunday has whizzed around so quickly it almost caught me off guard. I normally prepare some notes on Saturday so that I know what I am going to write about on Sunday. Not so yesterday, so apologies if this newsletter is a little less polished.
I promised you an article on increasing PR today, and we shall indeed look at that in a moment. However, there are a few things that I want to mention first.
LINKING STRATEGIES
Since we have spent some time looking at linking strategies recently, I thought I'd mention that this last week I had the pleasure of talking via e-mail (very briefly) with the link guru himself - Leslie Rohde. For those of you who do not know him, he is the genius behind the Optilink software. I won't go into its uses now, I will save that for another time. I have been playing with the demo version and will be upgrading to a paid version soon. I will then be able to get you more quality information on linking strategies.
GOOGLE MAJOR UPDATE?
Google appears to be in the middle of a big update. Strange things are happening and many webmasters around the world are panicking because their sites have actually disappeared from Google.
You can follow the panic over at Webmaster World (http://www.webmasterworld.com/). Just sign-in (or register - it is free) and look for the thread called "Google Update Florida - November 15, 2003"
It seems Google are trying to remove a lot of spam from their index. If you want to know what Google considers spam - read their own guidelines .
Make a special note of the quality guidelines there. Especially the second bulleted point that starts "Avoid tricks intended....". This is great advice.
There are a lot of eBooks out there which tell you to do things that would make me nervous. My advice is don't use these techniques, and if the eBook is built around a spam technique, ask for a refund!
THE BEST AFFILIATE MARKETING GUIDE?
I have had a couple of e-mails in the last two weeks asking me which is the best affiliate marketing guide for beginners. There are two around that most people have heard of, namely Rosalind Gardner's "Super Affiliate Handbook" which costs $47, and James Martell's eBook "Affiliate Marketers Handbook 2002" which costs $167.
Wow, that is a big price difference, Read my reviews of these two eBooks. You will see that I lean in favour of James Martell's book. Yes, it costs more, but that is a drop in the ocean to how much you could make using his methods. His is also a lower risk model. You see, Rosalind Gardner relies on pay per click (PPC) advertising (where you pay the search engine for each and every visitor), whereas James does not. PPC is a minefield of danger. You could end up losing your shirt if your don't do it correctly and Rosalind does not go into enough specifics to avoid that. The Martell method relies on free traffic and shows you how to get it while building a profitable web site.
You might ask, is the Martell eBook worth over 3 times the Gardner eBook. In my opinion, it is worth many times that. It is a safe method that will cost you less to implement, and you are guaranteed to make money if you follow his tutorial.
OK, time we looked at the PR thing isn't it? However, if anyone has specific questions regarding any eBook or software that they have seen advertised, e-mail me (address at bottom of this e-mail), and I will do my best to answer you honestly. If it is a good question, I may even cover it next week.
