EzSEO Newsletter # 39

Hi & hope you have had a good week. Today, after receiving a lot of feedback after last weeks issue, I am going to start a new mini-series on how to build a niche site from start to finish.

I have been thinking a lot about my policy of not showing my own sites as examples because this will make the mini-series more difficult to write. However, the big problem with showing you actual sites is that if they becomes successful, they will get copied. Because of this I have decided that I will not be using any of my own sites as examples in this mini-series. I will be building a hypothetical site, not a real one. However, the data and information I will be giving you is very real.

Before we start looking at how to build a niche site, I have had a few questions regarding a popular piece of software, so let's look at it.

This week:

1. Niche Database any good?

2. Creating a Niche Site - Part I

2. Creating a Niche Site - Part I

The first step for me when building an affiliate site is always the same. Find a good merchant. If you build a site without first identifying possible merchants, you are looking to fail. What happens when you have finished your site, go to find a merchant, but there are none available, or at the very best, the merchants you find are bad ones?

What is a bad merchant?

Let's look at this question another way and answer the simple question,

"What makes a good merchant"?

My answer to this question is simple:

"One that looks after and values his/her affiliates".

The list of things to look out for is quite large, and I am not going to discuss that in this newsletter because I have started putting together a website that explains my criteria called Affiliate Minder.

There is little point in me repeating the information of that site here. It is better to let you go and see this website and see if you agree with my own criteria for selecting programs.

The website will eventually have lists of merchants that I feel are good to promote. At the moment, this site does not have any merchants listed, but I will be working on it soon. In fact, you can help me here if you want. The site has a submission area where anyone can submit affiliate programs they feel meet the criteria laid down. I will only ever list programs I fully recommend.

Next week we will be selecting at least one merchant and decide upon the niche for our test site and if anyone submits a merchant to the Affiliate Minder website, I may well use that as the starting point for my site. If no one submits a site, I will be left to choose the area of the test site myself. Now is your opportunity to have a say in the way this mini-course turns out.

That's it for today, have a great week.
